Introductions
I've finally done it - after a year or two of thinking about it on and off, I've finally managed to set up a blog, and on my own domain! Reflecting on it, I don't have one standout reason why I have procrastinated for so long - I think there is a splash of impostor syndrome (thinking I don't yet have enough experience to write anything of value) and maybe some technical reasons as well (like not knowing how easy it is to grab a domain and go these days). In any case, I've done it, its here, and I'm ready to get started.
If you don't yet know me, let me introduce myself. I'm Cole, I'm an engineer and software developer. I work for Stryker in San Jose, though I have been residing in my hometown of Helena MT for the past few weeks to enjoy some of the fall weather - the auburn tones of turning leaves and pale green of pines on the mountains surrounding the valley were much needed after a the sweat filled summer of 2021. I work in the Sports Medicine division of Stryker, where I do machine learning work. The medical device field is governed by some interesting dynamics, and it might be worth a short post in the near future. Before Stryker I worked at Xilinx on development kits (RFSOC, early datacenter NICs and ML accelerators). I hold a bachelors and masters degree in electrical/computer engineering from Santa Clara University where I was also a teachers assistant for a year.
Talking about my CV always feels a little mechanical, but I imagine its that way for everyone. On to the purpose of this blog - my hope is to write sporadically about interesting technical topics, particularly those related to ML, synthetic data, and python, but I also want to use this to talk through some of my budding entrepreneurial interests as well. All typical stuff for a California tech bro I suppose. I hope that a few of these posts are of interest to someone, even if its just me in the future. I guess we will see!
